This train the trainer course is designed to develop Carbine Instructors who can return to their organizations as lead instructors and true subject matter experts. Students will increase their skill level and effectiveness with carbine rifles as well as their ability to instruct others in the safe and proper use of the weapon. Students in the course will be expected to conduct “Teach Backs” of learned material to TRC’s instructors and fellow students. Students must successfully pass practical and written exams to receive an Instructor Certificate.
Course Details:
This train the trainer course is designed to develop Patrol Rifle Instructors who can return to their organizations as lead instructors and true subject matter experts. Students will increase their skill level and effectiveness with the patrol rifle as well as their ability to instruct others in the safe and proper use of the weapon. This is an excellent follow on course for those who have completed the TSI Law Enforcement Patrol Rifle Basic and Advanced Courses, or
for an Officer who already has demonstrated expertise with the rifle/carbine. Students in the course will be expected to conduct “Teach Backs” of learned material to TSI’s instructors and fellow students. Students must successfully pass practical and written exams to receive an Instructor Certificate. The primary instructor will have a professional Law Enforcement background.
Course Objective: Student will demonstrate his/her ability to perform as a tactical firearms instructor in a safe and effective manner.
The following topics will be taught in the course:
Prerequisite: TRC to approve prerequisite qualifications of each student. Call to inquire.
Training schedule: Show time is 7:30 am with instruction starting at 8:00 am.
Individual equipment:
Course includes: 44 hours of instruction and a certificate of completion.

Course Objective: Student will demonstrate his/her ability to perform as a tactical firearms instructor in a safe and effective manner.
The following topics will be taught in the course:
- Safety
- Operating cycle of the AR-15 rifle/carbine
- Sights, zeroing considerations and techniques for iron and optical sights, external
- ballistics, slings, and equipment placement
- Brilliance in the Basics® training methodology
- Identifying and correcting shooter errors
- Fundamentals of rifle marksmanship
- Shooting positions
- Multiple target engagements
- The set-up and shooting on the move
- Target discrimination
- Basic room clearing (door manipulation)
- Low light shooting
- Medium shooting (Glass, sheet-rock, wooden doors)
- Proper use of covered positions and barricades
- Tactical training mindset

Individual equipment:
- Carbine with 5 magazines
- Pistol with 5 magazines
- Weapon mounted flashlight for carbine
- Hand held flashlight
- Knee and elbow pads (optional)
- Weapon cleaning kit (with oil for guns)
- Rain or inclement weather gear
- Eye and ear protection (clear and shaded lens are recommended)
- Water/Snacks (1 hr lunch break)
- Hat/Gloves (rifles will get hot)
- Sun Screen (non-greasy or water resistant recommended)
- Optical sight for rifle (optional, but highly recommended)
- Individually issued equipment (LBE, ballistic or protective vest with associated magazine pouches)
