One-Day Level I Carbine

The Level 1 Carbine course is designed to emphasize the fundamentals of marksmanship in utilizing a semi-automatic AR-15 type rifle or carbine. Upon completion of this course the student will have a thorough understanding of firearm safety, firearm operation, and the ability to engage multiple targets at distances up to 100 yards from the prone, seated, kneeling, and standing positions.

Ammo requirements

500 rounds of rifle ammunition per person.

Prerequisite

A basic understanding of firearms safety and operation.

Individual Equipment

  • Carbine with 3 magazines
  • Knee and elbow pads (optional)
  • Weapon cleaning kit (with oil for carbine)
  • Rain or inclement weather gear
  • Eye and ear protection (clear and shaded lens are recommended)
  • Water and snacks (1-hour lunch break)
  • Hat and gloves (rifle will get hot)
  • Sunscreen (non-greasy or water-resistant recommended)
  • Optical sight for carbine (optional, but highly recommended)
  • Magazine pouch or belt or pants with square back pouch. LBE, chest rig, or armor are optional.

We recommend you wear comfortable shoes, long pants, and a long sleeve shirt that you don't mind getting dirty.

One-Day Mid-Range Carbine

The One-Day Mid-Range Carbine Course is provided to advance the carbine operator’s distance skills with a 5.56 to 7.62 semi-auto rifle. The classroom portion, consisting of approximately four hours, will focus on safety, marksmanship fundamentals, external ballistics, ammunition selection, zeroing techniques, wind estimation, reticle calibration,and range estimation.  The live-fire portion will focus on the practical application of techniques and practices learned in the classroom environment. Multiple events will expose the shooter to complex timed scenarios in which they will engage targets from field expedient firing positions.

Firearms Requirements (Student Provided)

  • Rifle: Rifle/carbine chambered in 5.56 or 7.62.
  • Optic: Red dot with magnifier, low-power fixed or low variable-powered optic with appropriate reticle.
  • System: Rifle system must be capable of holding groups of 2 MOA or less (Most rifles from a reputable manufacturer are capable).

Ammo Requirements (Student Furnished)

500 rounds of quality ammunition in selected caliber

Prerequisite

Level I Carbine course completed or documentation of an equivalent course from elsewhere.

Two-Day Tactical Carbine

This course is for confident, experienced carbine shooters looking to significantly improve their accuracy and speed under pressure of real-world scenarios. Day 1 covers the essentials of the Level I Carbine to ensure a consistent foundation of proficiency out to 100 yds. Day 2 consists of progressively challenging drills and events that force the shooter to also develop his or her critical thinking skills, along with achieving perfect execution of the fundamentals. The course also includes an optional stress shoot incorporating tactical movement, obstacle navigation, and testing of fine and gross motor skills under increased heart rate in order to replicate and train for stress responses experienced during a real-world shooting event. Throughout the course, students will receive individualized assessment and skill development training, with the student/instructor ratio kept to no more than 8:1. With larger classes, a second instructor will be added.

TWO-DAY TACTICAL PISTOL AND CARBINE

This dynamic, challenging, two-day tactical shooting course is limited to experienced, proficient shooters. Over the course of 16 hours, students execute a variety of progressive shooting drills under timed pressure.  *Enrollment is limited to provide one-on-one skill development analysis and instruction

Ammo Requirements (Student Furnished)

600 rounds of pistol ammunition and 600 rounds of rifle ammunition.

Prerequisite

Completion of at least one of TRC’s Level II courses AND completion of a Level I course in another weapon system, or documentation showing completion of equivalent courses from elsewhere.

  • Pistol with 5 magazines / carbine with 5 magazines
  • Belt with holster and magazine pouches
  • Magazine holder for the carbine/rifle
  • Knee and elbow pads (optional)
  • Weapon cleaning kit (with oil for guns)
  • Rain or inclement weather gear
  • Eye and ear protection (clear and shaded lenses are recommended)
  • Water and snacks / lunch (we’ll take an hour lunch break around noon. Lunch can also be purchased at fast food restaurants within a 10 mile radius of the range.)

PRECISION RIFLE

The Precision Rifle Course is designed to set the foundation of skills for the novice rifleman utilizing a scoped bolt-actionor semi-automatic rifle. The course will consist of approximately two hours of classroom instruction on firearm safety, rifle setup, zeroing, ballistics, and fundamentals as applied to the precision rifle.Classroom instruction is followed by six hours of live-fire range drills beginning with zeroing and accuracy drills. These drills will be followed by introduction to alternate firing positions using supported and unsupported techniques. Upon completing these exercises, studentswill gather data on known distance targets out to 600 yards. Culminating the course will be timed known-distance engagements using techniques learned throughout the day.

  • Support bag (a.k.a. sand sock)

ONE-DAY WIND READING FOR SNIPERS, PRECISION RIFLE SHOOTERS,MID/LONG-RANGE COMPETITORS, AND LONG-RANGE HUNTERS

This one-day course is designed for shooters who want to learn how to read the wind. This class is appropriate for snipers, precision rifle shooters, CMP/NRA (Over-the-Course, Sling/F-Class Mid and Long Range) competitive shooters, and hunters who want to engage targets/game beyond 300 yards utilizing a bolt-action or semi-automatic rifle equipped with ironsights or scope.  The classroom portion, consisting of approximately two hours, will cover effects of wind, use of mirage, wind flags/other wind indicators to determine wind direction & speed, how to determine bullet wind drift, how to adjust sights, shooting in various wind conditions, and the importance of rifle accuracy. The remaining five-to-six-hour range portion will be 600 yard, live-fire practical exercises utilizing the techniques discussed during the classroom instruction.

Firearms Requirements (Student Provided)

  • Rifles: Military service rifle or civilian equivalent (M16/AR15, M14/M1A, M1 Garand, M110/SR25/AR10, M24/Remington 700/40X), or other similar bolt-action rifles .223 up to 30-06 (no magnum calibers).
  • Sights: Standard service rifle sights, match rifle sights, scope (10-25X power)
  • System: Rifle system must be able to hold groups of 2 MOA or less.
  • Note: Rifles will be supported in some manner (sandbag, bipod, front rest of your choice).

Ammo Requirements (Student Furnished)

Minimum of 50 rounds of match-grade, hand-loaded, or commercial ammo (same manufacturer, type, and weight – preferably of same lot number).

Prerequisites

Experience shooting high power rifles and an understanding of firearms safety.
